There’s always room for one more (reviewer)

There’s a Caldecott-winning children’s book titled There’s Always Room for One More, by Sorche Nic Leodas and illustrator Nonny Hogrogian. It’s a simple story. Lachie MacLachlan has a “wee house in the heather” and a family of twelve, but when it comes to guests, he very much believes “there’s always room for one more.” He believes that even when the evidence seems against him. It’s a heartwarming, humorous story that teaches lessons about hospitality. The title could also refer to our feelings about reviewers: there’s always room for one more.

Orange Blossom Ordinary is always looking for reviewers. New books are coming out every day. We’d love to have new reviewers to help us cover more of what is being published than we can at present. We’d also love to hear more voices and perspectives about things in print.

What makes a good reviewer? Someone who reads closely. Someone who reflects on what they read, often with some expertise. Advanced degrees and subject matter expertise are helpful, but you can have degrees and experience and lack the ability to assess books and share your thoughts. A good reader can be a good reviewer. And all our reviewers receive editing.

We think a review is a forum for people who read and think about what they have read. If you would like to be part of this project from the reviewing side, we would love to hear from you. You can email us at orangeblossomordinary@gmail.com and share a little about your background and interests. We don’t pay for reviews, but we can often get review copies of books and there is no specific frequency commitment for reviewing. We are also open to some readlist submissions if you have some to share.
